The Earthquake Engineering Research Institute (EERI) is the leading non-profit membership organization that connects the professionals across the globe dedicated to reducing earthquake risk since 1948. To promote study, practice and research in earthquake engineering among the students, EERI student chapters are established in various universities worldwide. In March 2021, IIT Bombay became part of this legacy by establishment of the EERI IIT Bombay student chapter. This chapter aims to provide knowledge of earthquakes and their social, economic, and environmental impact and practices to reduce earthquake risk. This chapter motivates students to pursue a career in the field of earthquake engineering and related fields.
